Over the past twenty five years, we have design/built many very unusual projects, in conjunction with our building partner Rosebrook Carefree Pools. These include custom designed spas built of formed reinforced concrete, gunite concrete, plywood framed vessels covered with lead and then lined with tile, tile lined custom fiberglass, and stainless steel, both lined and unlined. Following is a picture story about setting a stainless steel spa on the roof of the Park-Hyatt Hotel, 800 No. Michigan Avenue, in Chicago. This unit has an elaborate equipment system inside the top floor mechanical area of the building and the spa itself sits outside on the roof. The first photos show the spa here in its rawform. When complete, it will be veneered on the inside with granite panels.

This shot shows the spa (fabricated by Bradford Manufacturing LLC of Wilmington, NC) being delivered to the job site on a flat bed truck.

The truck is parked in the center of Michigan and Chicago Ave's on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, at 7:00 am on a Sunday morning. The helicopter arrives.

The spa is hitched to the drop line and the "bird" is starting to lift it. |
|
|
The bird is now close to the roof top level, seventy stories up, with the spa hanging below. It's too high for a crane, and the spa is too large for the freight elevator. |

Spa is now in place, ready to be hooked up mechanically and to be clad in granite. See the finished product below. |
